Red Jalapeno (Jalapeño Red) is very aromatic and light to moderately spicy chilli. It achieves a perfect balance between its flavour and that of the stew or preparation.
Introduction
Of the Capsicum annuum species, this jalapeño is a moderately spicy variety, with values between 2,500-10,000 on the Scoville scale. Famous for its use as a chipotle pepper, the term used for a dry, smoky red jalapeño.
The origin of its name is found in the city of Xalapa, also named Jalapa, in the state of Veracruz, Mexico. Spanish and Portuguese explorers introduced them to Europe and Asia in the 15th and 16th centuries.
All peppers are full of vitamins and antioxidants. The red variety of jalapeño has been ripening longer than the green (less sweet) jalapeño so levels of capsiacin (the chemical that makes peppers hot) are higher. They are a source of vitamins and antioxidants.
How to apply it
The Red Jalapeño has a strong chile flavour with a subtle sweet touch, which can be used in any type of cuisine. It goes very well with any Mexican dish, but it is also added to pizzas, stews, salads, vegetables and even tortillas
